An up-to-the-minute on-demand position was requested, and the position update rate set to every 1 minute to follow the stolen goods. Within half an hour, the thieves had arrived in Wembley, North London and the TS16 was now stationary. The crime reference number (CRN) provided by the police was used to rename the label of the pin in the map so easily identifiable amongst the fleet with the pin colour also changed to red to stand out.

As the stolen equipment was now stationary, rather than continually observe, a start moving alert and geofence was activated around the current location with a notification configured to alert stakeholders should the equipment move and cross the designated geofence area.

An officer arrived at the scene and identified a solitary parked vehicle in an isolated car park, unattended. A quick check of the vehicle registration listed the vehicle as recently stolen from North East England and the suspicions were the stolen TS16 was out of sight in the boot of the vehicle. The officer decided to stakeout the vehicle and await any returners who would then be apprehended and questioned. After several hours and no sign of anyone returning to the vehicle, the officer decided to call in a recovery truck and transport the vehicle to the police pound.

With the turning of the tide with a rapid recovery and minimal disruption compared to previous instances of theft affecting MHLS, it has been decided to upgrade all other compatible instruments with LOC8 and stipulate as mandatory on future fleet investments which is testament to the service.

What if there was a different outcome?
